FAQs & RESOURCES
-
How frequently do we practice and what is the attendance policy?Teams practice at least twice a week between November – February. Monday practices are optional for Blue and Grey groups. Wrestlers are expected to attend at least two of the three practices each week, and must attend at least one practice during the week to be eligible for that weekend’s scheduled match.

What do we need to bring to practice? All wrestlers are expected to bring headgear, wrestling shoes, water, and a good attitude to each practice.

How many meets will there be and what can we expect? There will be one meet per weekend (typically on Saturdays). Meets typically run 4-6 hours. All wrestlers are expected to bring their NYPW team singlet, wrestling shoes, headgear, team shirt, water, and a good attitude to each meet. Parents and their wrestlers are extensions of NPYW; please make sure all children are supervised and engaged. Matches move quickly – always pay attention to your assigned mats. In most cases, gym rules prohibit any drinks except water. When snack stands are available, most are cash only.

-
Is there a formal Code of Conduct for NPYW?Yes. We follow the “Three-Strike Rule.” Due to the nature of wrestling, we expect all wrestlers to be engaged and actively listening. If a wrestler is unable to follow coaches’ expectations and rules, they will be asked to sit out of practice. Multiple issues can lead to a wrestler sitting out of practice, meets, and tournaments. If the problem persists, parents will be called and asked to pick the wrestler up from practice. All decisions will be based on the coaches’ and board's discretion.
